The three-day event attracted more than 80 youngsters from across Scotland for a tournament carrying Order of Merit and world ranking points.

Most of our members will have known Barrie, who was a former champion golfer, a long-time member of the county executive, an R&A selector and captain of the Scottish national boys’ team. Sadly, he took ill during last year’s European Team Championship and died in a hospital in Spain.

Tournament organisers and staff have enjoyed warm complements from participants and their families after the competition over the Lansdowne course, with plans being forged to ensure it becomes an annual event on the junior golf scene in Scotland in memory of a great servant to local and Scottish golf.

The quality of golf on display was of the highest order, with play-offs required in both the U18 and U16 competitions after level par 216 finishes.

Home supporters, including European Tour professional Bradley Neil, were cheering on 14-year-old Gregor Graham as he rolled home a birdie putt to end Calum Scott’s hopes to taking the trophy back to Nairn. Our Scottish international Cormac Sharpe was third, just two strokes off the pace.

The U18 trophy was won by Airdrie’s Greg Dalziel, with a stunning 45-foot eagle putt to defeat Jack Broun from Ayr Belleisle.

Ryder Cup player Stephen Gallacher was among our guests as he followed the fortunes of his son Jack, who finished fourth on a count back. Stephen walked three rounds and had complimentary words for the course and the club.

Indeed, the warmth of the welcome, fine clubhouse facilities and quality of our catering were remarked upon by many of our visitors.

Our “Premier Partner” Carbon Financial Partners generously supported a successful fun golf and hot dog night.  Support sponsors included GS Brown Construction, A&J Stephen, The Blue Group, T’Go, GS Group, McLeod Glaziers, Dental Technique, Club 300, Barclays Bank, Decorum Decor and the Gibson family.

Congratulations to the winners, all the participants and the many volunteers who pulled together a memorable event and a worthy tribute to one of our own.
