Charles
Dernie PGA Professional
Charles was
born in Cambridge and represented England at Boy and Youth
international levels. He turned professional in 1973 and played on the
European Tour from 1976 – 1981, during which time he won the North of
England Championship in 1978.
He moved to Scotland in 1980 and was the
professional at Buchanan Castle and Banchory
golf clubs prior to becoming professional at Blairgowrie in December
1997. Charles was captain of the Scottish PGA 1990 – 1991 (the only
Englishman ever!), and was a founder member of the Tartan Golf retail
group which is the UK’s 2nd largest golf retail
organisation.
Charles was the presenter of “Rules
Section” on the Sky TV show, “Get Your Handicap Down”. He is a fully
qualified PGA and R&A referee, and has been honoured to act as referee
at the 2002 Ryder Cup match at the Belfry, and has achieved the
distinction of being invited to referee at the 2003 USPGA Championship
at Oakhill, the only UK professional to
have been so honoured. |
